Update H1N1

Another 6 deaths recorded today bringing it tally to 44. WHO rep. Dr. Hans Tierus said, "there will be many servere cases and many will die".

Guidelines on closure of school being drafted said Liow,
Principle of school is to decide as there are no uniform criteria to shut down as a precaution against H1N1.

WHO rep said, Don't take pandemic lightly. At least 20 to 30 per cent of the Malaysian population are expected to be infected with influenza A (H1N1). "This pandemic is still evolving and the new virus is expected to be around infecting people for at least a year or more. We are definitely going to see many people around the world being victims of this new virus. The reality is the pandemic will not stop soon. Advice to all Malaysian, don't take the "tidak apa" attitude toward it and heed the advice of health experts.

PM added Health Ministry will increase the stock pile of anti-viral drug from the current 10% of the population to 20% involving an additional allocation of RM20 mil.

The people have to be pro-active in tackling this pandemic. Self-regulatory, self-quarantine and preventive measures to prevent the spread of A H1N1.

What should I do if I get sick?
If you become ill with A H1N1 symptoms - stay at home and avoid contact with other people. This means avoiding normal activities including work, school, shopping, social events and public gatherings. Seek medical care immediately.

If you experience the emergency warning signs - go to the nearest designated hospital i.e. Sg. Buloh Hospital, UMMC, Klang Hospital or call 03 - 26983757, 019-2299397.

What can I do to protect myself from getting sick?
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough and sneeze. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, Germs spread in this way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people. Wear mask if you should go out.
Other important actions that you can takes;
  • Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds, shopping mall and other socials distancing measures.
  • Be prepared in case you get sick and need to stay home for a week or so, enough supply of over-the-counter medicines, alcohol-based hand rubs, tissues and other related items that might be useful and help avoid the need to make trips out in public while you are sick and contagious.
  • What about disinfecting your premise?
