How to Make Natural Mosquito Repellant Using Essential Oils

Mosquito bites are itchy, uncomfortable, and pose the risk of a West Nile Virus infection. To protect yourself from mosquitoes you should apply mosquito repellant, but not everyone wants to use chemical-based mosquito repellants. There are several natural mosquito repellants available for sale, or you can save money and easily make your own natural mosquito repellant at home using natural essential oils.

Fill a spray bottle with one cup of grain alcohol (190 proof), which is available in liquor stores. Do not use rubbing alcohol because it will dry your skin out. If you prefer a moisturizing mosquito repellant, use a carrier oil such as almond oil, safflower oil or coconut oil; or you can use a combination of a carrier oil and grain alcohol
.
Add 2 ½ teaspoons of essential oils to the spray bottle. You can use a combination of any of the following essential oils: cedarwood, citronella, basil, juniper, rosemary, rose geranium, lemon, myrrh, palmarosa, eucalyptus, pine, thyme, sage, fennel, and lavender. Avoid pennyroyal, which can be hazardous to pregnant women.

Experiment with different blends of essential oils to find a natural mosquito repellant that is most effective on the insects in your area, works well with your skin chemistry, does not irritate your skin, and is aromatically pleasing to you
.
Shake the alcohol, carrier oil, and essential oils vigorously until they are well blended, and apply it to your skin to repel mosquitoes and insects. Test your natural mosquito repellant on a small portion of your skin to make sure it does not irritate your skin.

Reapply every few hours for optimum mosquito repellant effectiveness. Enjoy your time outside now that you have an effective natural mosquito repellant
.
Warning !!!

Certain essential oils should not be applied directly to the skin or can be harmful to pregnant women, so always read about each essential oil before you use it on your body.
